This is a public service announcement to remind you that Valentine’s Day is next week – and if you haven’t yet picked up a gift for your loved one, might we suggest a trip to your local Aldi…?

No stranger to newsworthy beauty launches, the bargain supermarket’s own fragrance brand Hotel Collection has just released two new eau de parfums: Tobacco & Vanilla and Sandalwood & Jasmine. At just £4.99 for a 50ml bottle, they make great Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day gifts that will impress without breaking the bank – and we can’t help but spot a similarity to two high-end fragrances.

Aldi has just launched these two new perfumes

Aldi’s Tobacco & Vanilla sounds remarkably like Tom Ford’s unisex Tobacco Vanille, reportedly the scent of choice of Harry Styles and Taylor Swift – but at £195 for a 50ml bottle, it’s nearly 20 times the price of the supermarket version. Meanwhile the Hotel Collection Sandalwood & Jasmine shares similar notes to Tom Ford’s Santal Blush, also £195.

But what do these purse-friendly perfumes actually smell like? OK!’s beauty editor Laura was one of the first to get her hands on them – and here’s what she thinks:

There are some similarities between Aldi's new launches and these £195 Tom Ford perfumes

Laura says:

“I admit that I’m normally a bit of a perfume snob, but I’m actually really impressed by these two new Aldi scents. Sandalwood & Jasmine is nice but a little too musky for my personal tastes, but Tobacco & Vanilla is right up my street – warm, creamy and smoky. I don’t have the Tom Ford scent to compare it to, but I would definitely snap up this Aldi one if I spotted it in store. The only downside is that the scent doesn’t last very long on the skin – but for less than a fiver, you can afford to be generous with the spritzes!”

These new perfumes are only available in stores, and as with all Aldi Specialbuys, are only available while stocks last, so if you want to get your hands on these money-saving scents you’ll need to move quick!

And if you’re after another bargain alternative to a fancy fragrance, check out this £9.50 scent, which TikTokers are saying is an exact dupe for Le Labo’s Santal 33.
