I was absolutely thrilled when Athletia got in touch to send me some goodies as this is the exact type of skincare I’m loving right now. I feel like I’m finally at a point where I’m giving my skin what it needs, creating a balance between some key, results-driven actives and some lovely, pampering, good-for-the-soul oils and hydrators. Athletia skincare falls happily into the latter category, providing a small but wonderfully formed collection of mood-boosting skincare (and hair and body care) that adds that self-care element to your everyday routine.
I’ll start off with the Treatment Cleansing Oil (£42 here – link) which brings such joy to my routine, not just because it’s the colour of sunshine, but because it’s a real pleasure to use, breaking down all of my makeup (including eye makeup and heavy mascara) and leaving skin feeling nourished and clean without any residue.
It’s a fairly rich oil, which makes it ideal for removing makeup, but it doesn’t feel heavy on the face, and whilst there is a fragrance there, it doesn’t feel out of place and instead feels like it’s part of what makes the oil such a pleasure to use. I’ve been fortunate to try some great cleansing oils recently but this is the one I’m reaching for most.
The Tuning Aroma Mist (£28 here – link) comes in two fragrances, Rock It, or Refresh and Restart; I’ve been trying out the latter. As you would expect, there is a big focus on the wellbeing element of using a facial mist alongside the skincare benefits, so the mist contains notes of peppermint and lavender to sooth the soul as well as the skin.
I’m a big believer in skincare mists and I think they are absolutely essential in all skincare routines. This one works particularly well with the rest of the range, such as the Core Balance Duo, of which I’ll go into more detail below.
The Core Balance Duo (£98 here – link) is, I think, probably what the brand will be known for as it’s a really interesting concept, combining the Core Balance Oil and the Core Balance Toning Lotion. The Core Balance Oil has an oil-to-water ration of 6:4, so it’s a really light oil that encourages massage and glides over the skin. What’s fascinating about these two is that you use the oil first, then you follow with the Toning Lotion to set it all in place!
The Core Balance Toning Lotion can be used a number of ways, either a traditional toner on a cotton pad, or more like an essence when applied directly on to the skin. It’s fascinating how it works with the aforementioned Core Balance Oil, as it just sort of holds all the moisture in whilst removing any residue, so your skin is left looking and feeling plump and hydrated but without looking like it has any skincare on – it’s so different and such a pleasure! I particularly like to start off with the Tuning Aroma Mist before the Core Balance Oil, but obviously they’re all individual products that can be used alone too.
Finally, the Skin Protection UV Gel 30 (£33 here – link) which has a very light and comfortable formula that glides over the skin without any noticeable cast. I always try to use a sunscreen with an SPF50 and I generally favour the more hydrating formulas because my skin can look a bit dehydrated, but this would make a great choice for anyone with oily skin who doesn’t mind the lower level of SPF.
The collection includes a Skin Protection UV Gel 50 and a Skin Protection UV Cream 30, so hopefully this means a Skin Protection UV Cream 50 will arrive on the scene at some point!
I really enjoyed trying out the Athletia range and I love everything about it, particularly the aesthetic which I think works so well with the products themselves. I don’t use the Core Balance Duo everyday as I like to have a few days of actives each week, but on days where I’m focusing on soothing and hydrating, I love to include this duo – it’s also a great finish for at-home facials too!
Athletia are currently running a promotion where you can get a Core Beauty trial kit when you buy any full sized product, so now is definitely the time to explore: find the whole range here – link.
