You’d assume that most famous models are naturally blessed with perfect hair, but Hailey Bieber is documenting her three-year process to growing out her lengths into a condition where she finally doesn't need to boost its thickness with hair extensions.
Speaking on her Instagram Stories this week, Hailey says: “It’s taken me three years to grow my hair out. Officially can do a ponytail with no extensions or clip-ins.”
We would never have assumed Hailey’s hair was the work of extensions before, considering her styles always look so natural, but it seems she’s been turning to clip-ins for years while she waits for her hair to look thick and healthy on its own.
Her road to better hair health might also be why the model swapped from her trademark bright blonde highlights to a toned-down, darker ‘mushroom blonde’ colour back in April 2022. Considering bleach can dry out and damage strands, going for a darker shade closer to her root colour will mean she’s able to nurse her ends back to a healthy condition.
If you’re not quite sure what a "mushroom" blonde is, it’s one of the biggest colour trends for 2023, and was originally sparked by Hailey’s transformation last year.
Emma Vickery, Percy & Reed salon art director, explains: “The key difference between a mousy blonde and a mushroom blonde is the level of shine. A gloss is used to give bronde or dark blonde tones with cool, neutral bases a healthy sheen. There’s nothing boring about a moodier blonde!”
Since Hailey made “dishwater bronde” cool again, celebs have been quick to follow suit. Margot Robbie, for example, has also gone back to her dirty blonde root colour. Then there’s Cara Delevingne, who has just gone back to her bronde root colour after a brief stint as a redhead.
Hailey isn’t just sparking hair trends left, right and centre, though. Mrs Bieber also seems to have the ability to create a viral nail trend with just the wave of a hand (literally). In the past year alone, she’s made glazed nails, chocolate ganache glazed nails and Christmas glazed nails some of the most popular manicure trends around.
