It seems that whatever Hailey Bieber does, the world immediately wants to copy. From her beauty looks like candy cane nails and “glazed doughnut skin” to her incredible street style, the 26 year old seems to set new trends every time she leaves the house. And the model-turned-skincare-mogul’s dramatic new haircut is no exception.
Stepping out in New York City recently, Hailey revealed how her previously long lengths have now been chopped into a short blunt bob. Pairing this new hair with a micro-mini skirt, oversized coat, chunky loafers and round sunglasses, Hailey captioned a snap on her Instagram Stories: “Margot Tenenbaum for the foreseeable future.”
She’s referring to Gwyneth Paltrow’s character in the cult 2001 movie The Royal Tenenbaums, who has since become something of a style icon. In the film Margot also sports a straight, one-length bob and wears a big coat, so it’s easy to see where Hailey’s inspiration came from.
Hailey gave fans a closer look at her new chop over on her TikTok account, posting a short video showing off the haircut in all its glory – and her followers were predictably obsessed.
“Now all the tiktok girlies are about to have this haircut in the next 5-7 business days,” wrote one, while another commented, “Hailey cut her hair so I made an appointment to cut mine.”
“Short brunette is trending for summer 2023,” one fan also noted.
And she’s not wrong. Bobs are indeed set to be a key hair trend this year, says hairdresser and owner of ARKIVE Headcare Adam Reed. “Blunt bobs are so popular because they are actually very low maintenance – they are a classic,” he says.
It’s a style that also suits everyone, says Adam. “It can also be tailored to suit all face shapes, but if your face is round, I would recommend leaving length – it will draw the face shape down,” he advises.
Styling it to perfection is also key to nailing this style, according to Adam. “If your hair is straight and smooth, I would iron it. If it’s curly, get some definition in the curls. Definition and shine conditioners are a key tip to maximise the effects of a bob.” Adam recommends applying ARKIVE The Prologue Hair Primer, £13 here, to prep the hair before styling, and ARKIVE The Good Habit Hybrid Hair Oil, £14 here, to add Hailey-esque levels of shine afterward.
Will you be tempted to go for the chop this year?
