Any new mum knows how hard it can be to get enough sleep in those early years. Trying to look anything like your old self can be a struggle when you feel like you have bags the size of Mariah Carey’s luggage under each eye. And Jess Wright has been feeling this recently, as she looks for the perfect under-eye concealer.
Ex-TOWIE star Jess turned to Instagram to ask her followers what their secret mum weapon was in this area, and her fans were very happy to help out with recommendations. “You guys asked me to share the responses re concealer, so here they are my beauties.” she said.
These words were posted over a candid shot of her lying on her back and looking frankly gorgeous. Her skin was looking radiant and not as though she was in need of extra snoozing time, so she must have found something that is working. “There are HUNDREDS so just sharing some. Hope they help us!” said Jess as she passed on the top tips from all her followers.
The first thing we noticed is that there are several recommendations for one particular premium brand, loved by make-up artists on celebrity shoots. “NARS!!!!!!!” said one follower, who called herself a “Fellow sleep deprived mamma”.
“NARS is good” agreed another, adding kissing on the end, and two more mentioned the brand as well, making it the most popular tip. Being a professional brand, NARS have a couple of concealers to offer, but we think the stand out is their award winning NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, £26 here, which is the No1 selling concealer in the UK in the premium category. If you want to try it for less, you can get a mini version of 17 of the shades here for £14
However, one follower offered a much cheaper alternative, from a brand we’re also big fans of. “Oh you look beautiful though!” she began, before adding “NYX is great – my saviour!” We think she’s probably talking about NYX Professional Makeup HD Photogenic Concealer Wand, £6 here, which is brilliant for under-eye touch-ups for days when you just want to look a little more human. It’s one of four concealers this brand offers, including a palette of blendable shades and a serum concealer. They also have the mum-tested Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, £8.50 here, which is thicker and longer lasting, great for early starts and long days.
There were plenty of other high end suggestions among the tips. “Chanel concealer you won’t look back trust me. Have an 8 year old and 4 year old boys” said one. Their Le Correcteur is £30 here. Another suggested REN Brightening Dark Circle Eye Cream, £44 here. While not a concealer, it’s a great skincare secret.
Tarte Shape Tape, £23 here, was also mentioned, and By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Concealer, which comes in at £36 here. It’s a hefty price tag, but we’ve tried this one too and it is rather magical, with amazing glide.
Finally, with possibly our favourite tip, straight out of the Anna Wintour school of glamour, one reader recommended: “Sunglasses ALL day.” It’s definitely a vibe.
