Kate Middleton has been out and about this week on a number of official engagements for the launch of her new campaign Shaping Us. The string of events started with a reception on Monday evening alongside celebrity ambassadors such as Zara McDermott and Professor Green, and was followed by a trip up to the University of Leeds on Tuesday.

As always, the Princess of Wales’s immaculate outfits won universal praise (a red trouser suit and an emerald green tailored coat respectively, both by Alexander McQueen, famously one of Kate’s favourite designers), but we also couldn’t help but be wowed by the 41 year old’s glossy new hair colour.

The Princess of Wales unveiled her new deeper hair colour while out at events this week

It’s a subtle change, of course (we can’t imagine we’ll ever see the Princess doing a Kim K and unveiling an all-over bleached blonde…), but Kate looks to have swapped her signature warm, caramel brunette for a much darker and richer shade of brown. As always, her hair was styled to perfection into her trademark loose, bouncy waves, and the result is a glossy hairstyle that looks luxurious and healthy.

And Kate’s new look is bang on trend, too. A-listers like Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski have all been switching to a deep, chocolate brown this winter, while on this side of the pond, hairdresser Calum Tierney has been creating “mocha melts” colour on the likes of Faye Brookes and Michelle Keegan.

If you fancy giving this colour a go, “chocolate”, “cocoa” and “coffee” are words to say when you’re sitting in the salon chair, and ask your colourist to blend warm and cool tones to best suit your complexion. And the key to ensuring that this colour looks super-luxe is to really enhance the shine; plenty of hairdressers recommend Wella Professionals' in-salon glaze service Shinefinity after having your colour done as an ideal way to accentuate rich brunette tones. Go to Wella Professionals’ salon finder to find your nearest Shinefinity salon.

Now BRB, off to order an extra-large hot chocolate with all the trimmings…
