Spring is the perfect time for a bit of a hair shake up, and former Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock is the latest celebrity to undergo a hair transformation as she ditches her short curly bob in favour of some extra long double twist strands.
Leigh-Anne posted a snap of herself on her Instagram stories on Monday showing off her new braids as she explained that she’d got bored of her old hair and fancied a change.
She visited Momo’s Hair to get the twists – a celebrity hairstylist and hair artist who is the stylist behind Tati Gabrielle’s braids in the new season of YOU on Netflix.
The stylist, who specialises in Afro and textured hair and has worked on celebrities for red carpets, editorials and TV, shared a video of Leigh-Anne on her Instagram showing off her new braids, known as passion twist braids, revealing she created the look using Deep Twist Curls in colour 4.
Passion twist braids are a form of braiding that have become increasingly popular recently. The style is a variation of the ‘goddess locs’ that were created by hairstylist Kailyn Rogers, also known as The Boho Babe, that can be done in less time and involves using two strands of hair twisted together.
Kailyn told Elle.com: "I fell in love with goddess locs and felt I could do the same thing: make women of all textures feel amazing with a hairstyle. I knew I wanted a style no one else was doing and cater to all hair textures."
The style is done to help protect natural hair and is an easy to maintain hair-do, whilst still giving a sculptural look. The passion twists are typically done using Freetress Water Wave braiding hair with texture that looks natural for a super effortless style.
The braiding hair is added directly to the natural hair and, although there are plenty of tutorials out there on how to do it yourself, it can take anywhere from four to eight hours to do, so it’s usually best to visit a hairstylist to get them done professionally.
The colder weather can be particularly damaging on natural hair, so protective styles like passions twists are perfect for helping keep it protected from dryness and breakage. You can also continue to oil your hair whilst wearing the twists to help keep them and your hair moisturised and hydrated.
Leigh-Anne had previously been rocking a beautiful curly shoulder-length bob, but is certainly no stranger to a sculptural braided style, and has worn some creative and dramatic up-dos. For this year’s Brit Awards, she wore an elaborate braided style that was done by celebrity hairstylist Dionne Smith.
