We all know how difficult it can be to cover up spots and blemishes, but when it comes to skincare woes, few are quite as frustrating to deal with as acne.

Whether it’s caused by hormones, lifestyle or stress, acne can be painful and uncomfortable, not to mention difficult to mask under your makeup, which is why we love seeing celebs share their own tips and tricks when it comes to dealing with it.

One of the most recent stars to give fans an insight into dealing with the skin condition is Shona Manderson who appeared on Married at First Sight UK last year in 2023. Since then, she’s become a big hit over on TikTok thanks to her candid and realistic videos, the most recent of which shows her ‘chaotic’ (her words not ours!) get ready with me video including a full-coverage makeup routine.

Shona Manderson shows off the products she uses to cover her acne spots

In the video, which has amassed plenty of comments in solidarity from fans who also struggle with acne, Shona wrote “My first get ready with me was chaos which sums me up, ft. my acne at the moment.”

To start with, Shona shows of her bare skin calling it “very spotty” and shares three of her favourite makeup products for covering up her acne, holding up three products which included e.l.f’s Halo Glow Liquid Filter, £14 – £14.95 here, and the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, £39 here, both of which are known for their dewy, glow-boosting formulas.

She also held up a packet of StarFace Hydro-Star Pimple Patches, £11.99 here, saying: “I’ve also been using these to try and help my spots,” as she dabbed a liquid concealer over the areas most affected by her acne, as she adds: “I don’t have makeup brushes at the moment so I just use my finger” whilst blending the concealer in using her ring finger.

The MAFS UK star also revealed she'd been using the StarFace pimple patches

Next she puts some of the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, £39 here, on the back of her hand, before using her fingers to apply the tinted glow booster across her entire face and adding an extra dab of concealer underneath her under eyes as she discusses whether her copper coil could be responsible for her acne breakouts.

Although we didn’t catch exactly which concealer Shona has been using, one of our favourites is the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, £26 here, which brightens and corrects discolouration whilst being hydrating enough to not dry out your acne or cling to any textured patches.

The final look left her acne spots barely visible

Once her foundation is done and her spots have been carefully concealed, she adds NARS’ Orgasm Blush, £30.50 here, to the apples of her cheeks, before highlighting her nose and cheekbones with Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lightening Powder, £44 here.

To finish off her base, Shona sweeps NARS’ Laguna Bronzing Powder, £33 here, around her hairline and her cheekbones, before adding ICONIC London’s Illuminator, £32 here, beneath the arches of her eyebrows, with the final result rendering her acne spots almost invisible.

Following her makeup routine, Shona also shared a video that shows the full extent of her struggles with acne, as well as discussing which products she’s tried, which you can see on her TikTok here.
