When you have hair as good as Michelle Keegan, why would you ever need to switch it up? Historically, the actress has kept her hair a dark, glossy brunette shade and her layers long and tousled. Now, she’s showing off a new look that sees her lose several inches of length from the ends of her hair.

Though Michelle is yet to reveal the outcome of her trip to the hair salon, her colourist, Calum Tierney, gives us a full glimpse of the transformation process in a new-posted Instagram Reel. We can also tell from his clip that Michelle hasn’t just gone home with a new cut. She’s also left with a new winter-ready, tonal hair colour.

“Pecan Brownie -Michelle Keegan,” he writes, adding additional details about how he created the style. “Technique- Colour Contour. Colour @wellahair. Foils @framar. Wand @ghdhair. Products @sebastianpro_official. Extensions @hairtalkireland_uk.”

The final result of the makeover is gorgeous. Calum has added plenty of layers to give Michelle’s shorter cut body and bounce. We’d even go as far as to say the look has an air of "90s Rachel Green" to it – not surprising considering it’s a top trend in the hair world at the moment.

Also, Michelle’s colour is different from the hue she wore out and about last week. Gone is her dark, mocha tone, and in its place is the “pecan brownie” colour that Calum describes in the caption. The tone features light and buttery brunette tones around the front sections and ends of her hair to brighten up the actress’ complexion.

Like Calum says, he used a Wella “colour contour” technique to add dimension to Michelle’s tresses. This method of highlighting and lowlighting hair first went viral in 2020 after he used the method on the actress for a past look.

What is colour contouring, you wonder? Inspired by the process of contouring the face with make-up, the method uses a combination of free-hand application and highlighting, paired with the careful positioning of different tones and depths around the face to highlight and shadow targeted areas.

Whatever Calum is doing for Michelle, we can all agree it’s working for her!
