There’s nothing like a good hair trend to unite celebrities, and the top summer trend of the year is most definitely money-piece highlights.

The trend first became popular in 2020, when everyone took advantage of being in lockdown to try something new with their hair.

But it's gained in popularity even more since then, with a whole host of A-listers hopping on the look in time for summer.

The latest celeb is former Made in Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh , who showed off her new ultra blonde front sections on Instagram on Thursday, 18 May, as she celebrated the launch of her new fashion collection with brand Friends Like These.

In the celebratory video, Millie can be seen with her usual dark blonde waves, but her front sections had been noticeably lightened in two solid chunks on either side of her face.

The trend is typically best suited to those who have a middle parting, like Millie, as it allows an even section on each side to be bleached and lightened.

The ends of her hair have also been lightened, with the bright money-pieces and tips giving her hair a natural, sunkissed glow that's accentuated by her loose waves.

For anyone who's already blonde like Millie, money-piece highlights give a natural lift to your complexion and brighten your face, whilst still looking intentionally styled.

But others with dark hair shouldn't despair – the trend still works to give a dramatic two tone look, as well as making it easier to experiment with different colours, without the commitment of lightening all of your hair.

Millie’s just one of many celebrities who have embraced the subtle money-piece trend, with fellow former MIC star Zara McDermott also showing off her bright blonde highlighted sections during a meeting with Kate Middleton earlier this week.

TOWIE star Courtney Green also showed how you can subtly add the trend to brunette locks, as she gave a behind the scenes look at exactly what she gets during a trip to the salon.

Courtney opts for her money-pieces to be lightened with bleach first, before an ashy brown toner is added to them to help them look more natural in her darker hair.

If you’re keen to try something more dramatic, Love Islander Belle Hassan championed the contrasting light front sections with her super dark brown tresses, choosing to dye her money-pieces bright pink for months before she swapped them for a darker version again.

We wonder who'll be next to hop on the money-piece trend?
