Nail Tech Talk: Trick Or Treat Nails

Alana of Trick Or Treat Nails chats with Scratch about her unique, horror-inspired nail style, and reveals her aspirations for 2023…

Southampton-based tech, Alana of Trick Or Treat Nails, completed her training from home throughout the lockdowns via zoom. “Training online was so much harder to do, as there’s no one to check in person or to guide you.

“This really challenged me, but I believe this made me progress further as it pushed me to be better.”

“My favourite designs to create are anything creepy and unusual,” Alana says. “Halloween and horror are my aesthetic, and this to me is my lifestyle.

“I’m not one for following trends. It’s different to your everyday nail page.”

“I love to be inspired and to create looks you wouldn’t see all year around.”

Alana sources most of her nail inspiration from watching movies and tv shows. “I get ideas in my head and just have to wing it by putting it onto a nail and hoping for the best.

“I also get a lot of inspiration from Instagram,” she shares. “I find so many incredible small artists on Instagram who inspire me.”

“The one piece of advice that changed my career was that nobody is your competition, and there is room for all,” Alana smiles. “This advice is what I try to remember daily.

“I have to remind myself that everyone has their own path that they’re on, and everyone will succeed in their own time.”

“There’s no rush. You can start anything at anytime within your life, and it doesn’t matter how old or young you are. Just enjoy the process.”

“I love the freedom and creativity of the nail industry. This has truly helped me with my mental health,” she reveals. “Painting allows me to zone out and take away any negative thoughts, it’s like a meditation for me.

“I also can’t forget the amazing artists who have now become my close friends, and who are so supportive daily.”

“The highlight of my career so far was when Devin Strebler reached out to me and asked for me to be her brand ambassador,” Alana beams. “Having such an incredibly talented artist to not only reach out, but to also believe in me and my brand, my art, and to even support me, is a huge blessing.

“I am truly forever grateful to Dev for all she does. She’s so kind, hardworking and just being herself daily is so inspiring! I’m so thankful.”

“I try to not look too far into the ‘future’, because it’s never been who I am. I try to look year by year. In 2023, I’m just trying to improve my artwork, and help others anyway I can.

“I’m hoping to get to work alongside companies that are supportive and fit my aesthetic,” she notes. “I want to be happy, and just see what the year brings! I’m manifesting a great 2023, whatever that maybe… I’m ready for it.”
