If you watched BBC's Normal People then you're probably very used to seeing lead actress Daisy Edgar-Jones with brunette hair. However, the star has just gone for a dramatic hair transformation and is debuting a new summery shade of blonde on her Instagram.

The colour was done for an unknown new filming project, but Daisy suits the hue so much that we wonder if she'll keep it for the full sunshine season. The lighter shade is golden in tone and features dark, grown-out roots – a perfect low-maintenance combination for someone with a dark base like Daisy.

The colour was done by celebrity hair colourist David Inman, who posted the news of the transformation to his Instagram grid.

"DAISY. The gorgeous @daisyedgarjones with her brand new blonde I created for her latest project and debuted in New York at the Met Gala," he writes.

Fans are loving the change to the actress' look, with plenty dishing out praise on how the blonde complements her skin tone perfectly.

"Obsessed with the blonde on you," says one, while a second writes: "The blonde, the dress – perfect."

A third asks: "New James Bond girl?" – we second this motion!

If, like Daisy, you're a natural brunette looking to go brighter for summer, this rooted blonde is the perfect way to transition to a lighter shade. The exact tone of this blonde is called a "Biscoff blonde" – yes, like the biscuit. Essentially what it means is the blonde features some warm caramel tones. Once you've discussed this tone, you simply need to ask your colourist to blend this colour down a few inches from your roots.

Food-themed hair colours are a big trend this year. We've had mayo blondes, strawberry reds and cappuccino brunettes. A perfect example of a coffee-coloured brunette that ticks both the gloss box and the rich box is Maura Higgins' new espresso brown tone.

In an Instagram video posted a few weeks ago, she said: "Hair transformation! I did not do this myself, Carl's here. Nah look at that transformation."

She continued: "So as you know, for the past two years I've been wearing clip-ins, but I've always had to mix what, two or three shades to get my colour. But now thanks to Beauty Works, they have created this perfect shade for me which is called espresso."

It seems a food theme is on the menu whether you're going blonde or brunette!
