If you’re just waking up to pictures from the Oscars red carpet, you’re in for a treat. The 95th Academy Awards produced some incredible beauty looks from A-listers like Superbowl superstar Rihanna, Bond Girl Ana de Armas and “it” actress of the moment Florence Pugh.
From a red lipstick going viral on TikTok to a controversial eyebrow trend and a blusher-free base, here are the key celeb make-up moments from the star-studded night you need to know about.
Rihanna’s red lip
If you’ve been on TikTok recently, you’ve almost certainly seen Rihanna’s Superbowl make-up look trending. Her red lipstick has been talked about daily since she wore it on-stage for her halftime performance – and now it seems she’s recreated a very similar version of the bold look again. Well, if it ain’t broke and all!
For last night’s red carpet, Rihanna again turned to a product from her Fenty Beauty range: the Icon Semi-Matte Lipstick, £15.30 here in the shade Grill Mast’r. If you’re wondering, her Superbowl shade was The MVP – a similar but slightly lighter red.
Florence’s straight eyebrows
We recently reported on our beauty section that the straight eyebrow trend is one look you might want to avoid trying out for yourself (it can be tricky to regrow hair if you pluck it into a straight style). However, this thought certainly doesn’t apply to Florence Pugh, who showed how straight brows should be done last night.
The Don’t Worry Darling actress showed off perfect arches on the Oscars red carpet, and, if you look closely at her pictures, it seems she’s created the illusion of very straight brows by overlining with a powder or a pencil instead of plucking any actual hairs into a new shape.
Ana’s no-blush base
There’s no denying Bond girl Ana de Armas looked incredible last night, however, her make-up look is proving to be Marmite with social media users this morning with some loving it and some questioning the “flat” appearance of her foundation.
We think Ana is bang on trend with her look considering blush and bronzer-free bases are a big celeb trend, with other A-listers like Kim Kardashian and Anya Taylor-Joy doing their best to make single-tone make-up a thing. With skin as flawless as Ana, who needs colour or contour anyway?
Halle’s ethereal eyes
Halle Bailey seemed to be gearing up for the hotly anticipated premiere of her new movie, The Little Mermaid, with her Oscars make-up look. The 22 year old chose to complement her gorgeous blue gown with frosted eyeshadow – very “early noughties meets Little Mermaid”, we think.
Could Halle single-handedly pull frosted makeup out of the beauty bin? We think so.
Lady Gaga’s “Black Swan” eyes
If subtle make-up was an Oscars 2023 beauty trend, Lady Gaga wasn’t informed. The House of Gucci actress stole the red carpet with an eyeliner-heavy look that’s giving us some serious Black Swan vibes.
With plenty of smoky underlining and dramatic corner lashes, we have to wonder if the singer took inspo from Natalie Portman’s movie character for this look.
Elizabeth’s ombré lips
Another trend we certainly didn’t expect to see make a comeback in 2023 is ombré lips, but Elizabeth Olsen is well and truly pulling the back from the vintage archives. For her Oscars red carpet look, the Avengers actress made her lips the key focus of her make-up by lining them with a deep red shade and keeping the centre a brighter red hue. Classy, we like it.
