Salon in the Spotlight: Indigo Pearl Beauty, Southend-on-Sea
Having worked as a mobile beauty therapist for seven years, Victoria Marston dreamed of having her own home-based salon space. However, she was limited due to where she was living.
“Being mobile is hard, especially as you get older. Business was put on hold when lockdown happened in 2020, which is when my family made the decision to move to Southend-on-Sea. The house we moved into was chosen with the idea of setting up my salon in the garden. I rebranded and opened my salon in April 2022.”
“I knew I’d have to rebuild my business post-Covid regardless, which encouraged me to take the leap,” Victoria recalls. “I rebranded to Indigo Pearl Beauty as Indigo and Pearl are my cats name, and it represents my business as a holistic and beauty hybrid.
“I still have some clients from my old area who make the 80-mile round trip to see me for nails!”
“I offer gel and polish manicures and pedicures, including builder gel, spa manicures and pedicures and IBX. I offer natural nail services, with no extensions,” she notes. “I use The GelBottle and have been for the last six years. Nothing beats The GelBottle‘s BIAB and most clients have converted to this colour range is great and it just works so well.
“For prep, I use Navy Professional Tools which completely changed my nail prep, and Veosh Spa for pedicures. I also use IBX, Unsung Hero, OPI and Peacci.”
“My ideal client is a lot like me. She’s a mature lady who has or is going through some big life changes. If she has a family they are older or grown up kids. She likes to take care of herself, but perhaps feels intimidated by going to a traditional salon. She may need guidance or help with making the best from herself now and prefers the natural look.
“The salon is unique as my client will be the only one in salon for appointments with me,” Victoria says. “It’s private and is not fashion driven, but works holistically for all treatments whether it’s a manicure or facial.”
“The décor in my salon is blush pink with deep indigo blue. I opted for blush pink as it’s calming and welcoming, while the blue represents individuality and something quirky. The furniture I chose is reminiscent of a vintage boudoir.
“All the furniture was upcycled by myself – I even learnt to upholster the chairs,” she beams. “My favourite part of the salon is my gel polish wall, which is also upcycled. It’s so happy and bright, so I call it the rainbow wall!”
“I wanted to create a sanctuary for clients to relax in, that also reflects my personality.”
