Spring is finally here, and along with the sunshine and the fact we can start to dig out our favourite dresses again, it’s time for some new seasonal sweetness when it comes to our perfume.

Over the winter, most people tend to prefer much deeper, richer scents like spices and woods to reflect the dark, cosy feelings that come with the colder months. However, now spring has sprung, the lighter days, sunshine, and colourful wardrobe options have got us ready for something lighter and sweeter to match.

Vanilla-based perfumes are a long-time classic scent, but often get a bad rap for being too sickly or youthful – which we can probably thank the 00s for, with scents like Britney Spear’s Fantasy filling your nostrils in every corridor and changing room you passed through.

However, the time for the grown-up vanilla fragrance is here, and Molly-Mae just shared one of her favourite vanilla-based scents with her followers. She revealed that Chloé Vanilla Planifolia, £112 here, is her favourite perfume, with its vanilla and floral mixture making the perfect spring scent.

The secret to choosing a vanilla fragrance that isn’t too sweet is to choose one that’s blended with slightly earthier scents, like florals, leathers, and spices, which takes the sickly sweet edge off but still gives you a lovely light scent that lasts all day. If you’re not sure where to start, here are some of our favourite vanilla-based scents that are guaranteed to get people asking you what you’re wearing.

Chloé Atelier des Fleurs Vanilla Planifolia eau de parfum, £112 here

Chloe's vanilla scented perfume is Molly-Mae's favourite fragrance

There’s a reason Molly-Mae chose this as her favourite perfume of all time. The vanilla is sweet and comforting, but the addition of floral scents, rather than make it extra sweet, balance it to make it more of a soft, delicate scent.

It’s also part of the Chloé Atelier des Fleurs collection, which have been designed to be used together. You can create your own personal fragrance by layering different floral, aromatic, and woody scents over each other to create a signature scent.

Lancôme Idôle Eau de Parfum, £87 here

The Lancôme Idôle perfume is a perfect blend of sweet and sharp

With Zendaya as the face of it, you know this Lancôme fragrance is going to be a good one. It mixes vanilla with citrus, musk, and jasmine for a sharp, floral fragrance that’s offset perfectly by the vanilla in it.

Designed to be refreshing rather than overpoweringly sweet, it also has patchouli and bergamot in it, which give it a slightly warmer smell, perfect for mirroring those warm spring days that must surely be appearing any time now.

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau De Parfum, £100 here

If it's good enough for Zoe Kravitz, it's good enough for us

One of the most classic vanilla perfumes out there, YSL’s Black Opium isn’t going anywhere when it comes to the best vanilla perfumes. Even Zoe Kravitz claims it’s her favourite perfume to wear, and if that’s not a stamp of approval we don’t know what is.

The combination of black coffee and sweet vanilla is the perfect combination to get you going each morning, and the sultry, provocative fragrance is a guaranteed winner long into the evening too

Huda Beauty Kayali Vanilla|28 Eau De Parfum, from £25 here

Layer up different scents from Huda Beauty to create your own bespoke fragrance

Make this your new every day perfume, as this Huda Beauty fragrance combines creamy jasmine, rich Madagascan vanilla orchid, softly sweet Brazilian tonka, musk, amber, patchouli and brown sugar together to create a sweet, vanilla-based scent that is balanced by the earthy musky scent.

Just Like Molly-Mae's favourite Chloé perfume, this is also designed to be layered too, so you can combine it with any of the other Kayali fragrances to create a perfume that's completely unique to you. Plus, the reasonable price means you can wear this every single day, and mix and match fragrances until you find your perfect scent.

Jo Malone Vetiver & Golden Vanilla Cologne Intense, £150 here

It might be on the more expensive side, but a little goest a long way with this Jo Malone cologne

Earthy smells are definitely the best way to dial down any overly sugary vanilla hints. This Jo Malone cologne is a super rich and powerful perfume, with the vanilla bourbon scent warming up the ultra earthy vetiver. There’s also a touch of lavender to stop it being too heavy and masculine.

It has a slightly smoky scent, with reviewers raving about how long it lasts and how many compliments they’ve had when wearing it, calling it a ‘luxurious’ and ‘sensual’ perfume.

Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille Eau de Parfum, £125 here

This is an absolute must for anyone who loves a vanilla fragrance

If you’re a vanilla lover, this perfume is an absolute dream. Its vanilla scent is buttery and decadent without being sickly, and the liquorice undertones are definitely an unusual addition, giving you a unique fragrance.

Sandalwood blends with the Mexican vanilla, creating what the description calls a “delicious wood-scented journey to the heart of a forgotten civilisation”, which might sound intense, but we’re here for how powerful you feel when wearing it.
