Gone are the days when bob haircuts had a 'mumsy' association. Now, an above-the-shoulder crop it's the coolest cut for anyone of any age to have. We largely have social media to thank for this, but we're also being inspired by some celebs who are making one specific type of bob the cut to have in 2024: an 'old money bob'.
Seen recently on the likes of Rochelle Humes, Tasha Ghouri, Zendaya, Mollie King and Hailey Bieber (to name just a few), this exact type of bob is hailed by hair professionals as being one that suits many different hair textures and face shapes, making it ideal for those wanting a low-maintenance style switch-up.
Also called 'heir hair', this trend comes as an extension of the 'quiet luxury' aesthetic that swept social media at the end of last year. Think of it as being a mid-length bob cut that gives a whiff of wealth and lived-in luxury. St Tropez strands at their finest.
“'Heir hair' oozes wealth and opulence. This is wealth signalling at its finest but not in a loud or boastful way," explains Tom Smith, hairstylist and trend forecasting expert. The texture falls in soft waves without looking like you’re trying too hard but happens to be in the most perfect condition with a grain of colour that is imperceptible, leaving onlookers (even hairstylists) not certain on exactly how it’s been achieved.
"This naturally voluminous style can work on any colour providing it’s not bold or artificial looking, but healthy and lustrous hair is a must – the ideal texture is like you had a blow-dry two days ago – it’s still looking cared for, but lost its salon-fresh appearance and sitting a little more kinky than bouncy.”
Keen to give it a try? After you head to the salon to brave the chop, you'll want to add a few additions to your hair kit. Heated rollers or the Dyson AirWrap are great tools for styling this look at home. These £60 rollers get the thumbs up from OK!’s deputy style director Zoe, while this £70 hair tool has been called a great dupe for the pricey AirWrap.
