It’s been just over ten years since the final Twilight movie premiered in cinemas, and while some of the cast look remarkably unchanged today (suspiciously vampire-like, some might say), others have had complete image overhauls in recent years.

Take Bella Swan actress Kristen Stewart. For the Twilight movies, she wore her brunette hair in long, flowing waves, but now she’s showing off a look that’s the complete opposite of her on-screen alter-ego’s “girl next door” image. Kristen, now 32, has just had her hair chopped into an asymmetrical mullet, and the style is very high fashion meets the 80s.

The cut features the classic mullet structure of a long back section and shorter sides, but it also has the addition of a choppy, layered fringe.

Kristen doesn’t have an Instagram account to share the results of her transformation, but her hairstylist, Adir Abergel, does. He mentions in the caption that the look was done for a recent film festival, where she appeared live on stage for a panel discussion.

“How does one person get to be that level of cool?” asks one fan in the comment section.

“I love her haircut. It looks so great on her!” says a second.

A third pens: “Her eyes are incredible and this haircut really makes them pop”.

Though popular in Australia at the moment, mullets are still a trend that plenty of us don’t want to see make a comeback. However, celebs like Kristen, Camilla Cabello, Miley Cyrus and Gwen Stefani are all doing their best to make it wearable (and very cool).

Camilla’s mullet – though, as it turned out, only temporary – gave us serious 80s glam-rock vibes when she revealed it on Instagram a few months ago. Camila’s hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos shared the look to Instagram, where the singer was seen modelling her new ‘do alongside some very punk-looking outfits. Her glam, created by makeup artist Ash K Holm, was equally as swoon-worthy, including a dramatic cut-crease eye look, graphic liner and tons of rhinestones.

We never thought we’d ask this but could 2023 be the year of the mullet?
