If you needed further proof that mullets are well and truly back in style, you only need to look to Love Island 2022 finalist Indiyah Polack. In a very surprising transformation, the influencer has swapped her signature long and highlighted lengths for a shaggy 80s-style mullet cut – and though mullets generally have a bad rap these days, it actually suits her to a tee.

The 24 year old, who is still coupled up with her villa beau Dami Hope, has been sharing the makeover on her Instagram stories and grid – much to the surprise and delight of her 1 million followers.

"Mullet supremacy," she captions a newly-posted grid selfie of the hair.

Indiyah and her new mullet, left, and her usual beauty look, right

With a long and shaggy fringe, short sides and long back sections, there's no doubt that Indiyah has gone full "80s Prince" with her look. Of course, the social media star has given the look a modern twist with the addition of sharp winged eyeliner, a glossy lip and flawless skin. Very Instagram meets Patrick Swayze, we say.

"alt bratz doll inspo right here," comments one follower, while a second adds: "Only Indiyah could make me consider a mullet".

A third writes: "Yup yup the Billy Ray Cyrus era," with a fourth commenting: "No one should be able to pull off a mullet this flawlessly".

There's been no word yet from the star on how she went about creating this work of hair art, but we're anxiously awaiting updates. What we do know is that Indiyah and Dami are currently traveling around Tokyo, and from the looks of their holiday snaps, they're having the best time.

We do wonder what or who inspired Indiyah to give a mullet a try for herself. Could it have been Miley Cyrus? The singer and her shaggy 'do are largely credited as being reasons why the mullet has returned to mass popularity. Then the look was also given a try by Camila Cabello and Gwen Stefani, who did admittedly make the retro style look incredibly cool. Now, if you head to Australia, you'll see the style everywhere. If you're not keen on taking a casual 24hr flight to see the trend in action, a quick scroll through #AussieTok on TikTok will give you a good idea of just how popular mullets are with the male Gen Z population.

What do you think, is the mullet really back?
