Supermodel Kate Moss and her 20 year old daughter Lila really showed that beauty runs in the family, with the pair looking absolutely stunning in their co-ordinated outfits on the red carpet at the Met Gala on Monday 1 May.

Gracing the steps of the Gala, a sophisticated annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City, the gorgeous mother-daughter duo wore Fendi couture gowns designed by its artistic director Kim Jones – and attended the event with him.

Both Kate and Lila's gowns had been designed as a subtle nod to Karl Lagerfeld, the late creative director of Chanel and Fendi and this year's theme for the Met Gala, and showcased Lagerfeld's love of pastels and his eye for a 'feminine flourish,' as reported by British Vogue.

Kate stepped out in a luxe version of her classic look – a lacy slip dress – which she wore with a simple off-the-shoulder sleeve shawl, a simple jewelled necklace and teardrop earrings. She wore her blonde hair down to her shoulders, with a dark smoky eye and nude lip to complete her look.

Lila, meanwhile, complemented her mum beautifully with a furry peach pastel gown, which partially-exposed her toned tummy, and silver sandals. She wore her blonde hair sleeked back behind her ears with a glam-natural make-up look.

It's not the first time Lila's appearance has echoed her glamorous mum's – just a few weeks ago, fans and followers said she looked the 'spitting image' of Kate when she was photographed for the cover of this month's edition of British Vogue.

In her interview with the magazine, she said her first steps as a model were decided carefully. "My mum always put me off [modelling]. She was always like, 'If you wanna do it, you can, but I wouldn't recommend it'," she said.

Interestingly, last year Kate told the publication her fashion advice for young women the same age as her daughter. "They're all scared to be themselves and I think they should dress as they want," she said in an interview. "You can't have regrets."

Also in attendance at the Met Gala this year were actors Jared Leto, Eddie Redmayne and Florence Pugh, singers Rita Ora and Lizzo and entrepreneurs and socialites Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner.

Whilst Kendall, Kylie and Kim didn't co-ordinate their outfits in the same way that Kate and Lila Moss did, the sisters still complemented each other and let their own individual style shine.

Kendall wore a gorgeous Marc Jacobs black sequinned body suit with oversized silver sparkly collar and decadent floor-length sleeves, while Kim wore a simple nude bodysuit – which she jazzed up with a long necklace and skirt fashioned out of string upon string of gorgeous pearls. And the youngest Kardashian-Jenner, billionaire cosmetic entrepreneur Kylie Jenner wore a striking one-shoulder and one-sleeve light red gown, with red strappy heels.
